The plan was to glue the 10 pieces that make up the spaces for the panes of glass in three sections, then glue the three sections together.

Well, we kept coming out of square even though we made spacer block in an attempt to keep square.

Lesson learned: don’t rush the process - keep the glue-ups manageable and don’t force the original plan of it’s not working!

Difficult glue-ups take time and the what you think will work, doesn’t always!!!

Customer has a $2.3mil home in #lakelasvegas & didn’t care for the unimpressive painted slab doors and was looking for an upgrade but didn’t want to spend the big $$ of replacing all the doors.

#solution :

Reskin the doors with rift sawn white oak veneers and route a few grooves in the doors to give the appearance of a for panel elegant modern door.

Process:

Step 1: Remove paint by sanding to the primer, we found the easiest way was to use the @festool_usa #rotex sander with 80 grit #sandpaper

Step 2: Apply the veneer with @titebondproducts Cold Press Glue and place into our #vacuumpress - this will prevent any future #delamination

Step 3: One the glue is cured, route the grooves to create the appearance of four panels

Step 4: Sand the doors with 150 and then 220 grit sand paper

Step 5: Apply two coats of @mohawkfinishing clear vinyl sanding sealer - this will help even out the application of stain on the veneers and prevents a blotchy appearance

Step 6: Mix a couple tablespoons of stain with the sanding sealer to create a toner to further even out the color of the door

Note: The application of the sanding sealer, stain & #lacquer is spraying, using the @fujisprayofficial Q5 HVLP System

Step 7: Apply 3 coats of satin lacquer

DONE!!!! ...

This door completed the space and perfectly matches the hickory cabinets !
